Custom Closet Construction
Once you place your order, the Custom Closet team will work on the design of your closet to make sure everything fits perfectly. Should you have any changes, they are happy to update the layout with you every week. Once we finalize the design, you can sign off on it or make more changes if necessary. Your closet’s construction begins after that, and we will update you on the progress every step of the way. Once your new custom closet goes up, you can choose whether or not to install it yourself or have it professionally installed by our team.
Custom Closets of Jacksonville welcomes your design ideas and can provide drawings and custom closets built to scale for your approval on paper before we begin construction. Then we will work with you during construction and on completion to ensure that we completely carried out your choices and ideas.
Ultimately, it depends on what you are using the closet for. Here at Custom Closets of Jacksonville, we encourage our clients to think about their needs and get creative with their space. Each type of construction has its advantages and disadvantages that you may not be aware of. Below is a simple explanation of each type and when you might use them.
Suspended Closets
Suspended closets are widely considered the most popular choice by homeowners. This design is commonly specified by interior designers and architects today. Suspended closet systems provide an abundance of storage space, keeping every item within easy reach. However, you should know that they consist of many components that must come together correctly to create the ideal system.
Suspended closet systems are designed and built with support brackets and rails. The system can be customized and adapted to fit any closet of any shape and depth. A suspended rail system consists of a metal or wood bar bolted into the wall studs. Metal L-shaped brackets are connected every 16 inches along the rail, and closet rods and other components such as shelves and drawers (if applicable) are attached to the L-brackets. This structure creates a solid support system for your entire closet. You can add more brackets or attachments if you want to expand your storage space or change its look.

Mixed Closets
A “mixed closet” is a term used to describe a closet that has both suspended and floor-based storage components. These features might include hanging shelves, coat racks, and perhaps even nets. Floor-based parts often contain cabinets and drawers. This type of system provides the best of two worlds: the hanging space for clothes and coats and drawers and cabinets for undergarments, socks, and accessories.
A mixed closet system is an excellent option for those with many clothes but who do not want to sacrifice too much closet space. The bottom line is that your mixed closet can consist of either hanging sections or standard cabinetry components, which gives you the use of both floor-based and suspended closets.
Mixed-closet systems combine a few different closet organizing modes into one system. Types of other organizers that we can integrate into one closet include hanging rods, shelves, drawers, and cabinets. Why would you want to do this? There are several reasons. A mixed closet system can offer more attractive storage than just one type of cabinet organizer alone. For example, cabinetry provides more style than plastic drawers, but you can see the benefits of drawers in more discreet interior closet designs.
